In June 2011 I decided to start taking my birds seriously and keep records of what i saw and when (particularly in Hwange National Park). I put an excel spreadsheet on my phone and enter the date and location of each bird i see for the first time each month. I hope to get a robust data set eventually that will be useful to track first arrivals, departures of migrants and specials.
The first 6 months has been very productive and has produced some really great birds.
The European bee-eater in June was the first "special" followed by an adult Cape Griffon, a Miombo Rock Thrush and the rare white morph of the Ruff, the Common Myna and a ringed White Stork (ringed in Spain!).
Watch this space for the next 6 months!
