Hwange has a huge amount of mature teak forest and one of our "special species" is found within those areas. Like the 4 other rollers that we get here in Hwange...the Racket-tailed roller is a gem of a bird. Hard to misidentify because of its powder blue colour at a distance and those diagnostic "racket -tails!" I have only really got one decent photo of this species before...(see header of this blog) as it sat on the hwange airport sign but today I was travelling along with my 600mm lens attached to the canon 350D. The birds caught my eye at about thirty meters from the road and the big lens did a great job making the most of the opportunity.
