Last year I thought I saw a European Honey Buzzard being mobbed by a yellow-billed kite in a mature teak forest near Dopi in Hwange National park. It was just a fleeting sighting so I could not confirm it. I "tracked lions" on that road several times in the following days in the hopes of seeing it again but was left with that nagging doubt........
Until last week when my wife and I were about to leave the park. There drinking from a puddle in the road was a bird that made us simultaneously say "what the hell is that". It flew up into the acacia tree ahead of us and there i managed a very hurried shot. The eye and the grey on the head confirmed my gut feeling.....a European Honey Buzzard.

Has anyone recorded this species in Hwange before? please let me know as it is a rare sighting.
