Barn owl bonanza!

In one of the areas where we track for lions....there is an old well with a concrete lining that goes down to about 15m. Whenever we pass by we stop to peer in and see what we see. We have seen a Barn Owl several times and once saw her sharing the bottom of the well with a Black Mamba!!!
On this occasion we saw not "one" but "Seven" chicks down there with her!!!!
There was probably a local rodent population explosion that she was responding to!

  1. Brent I think that has been going on for years and years. How long do Barn Owls live? It would be fascinating to know if it is re-colonized by new birds or related birds over time! I have seen a "Big Snake" in there too - a long time ago - around 2006. Possibly the Owl brought it in as it was lethargic to the point of morbidity ;-)
